FAQ – Digital BT Journal

-My iPad is playing the videos but there is no sound. Where is my sound?

This is a simple problem with an easy fix. To get your sound back, put your side switch into the unlock position, then in your settings, in general, set the side switch option to mute control. Your videos in app should now have sound!

If you would like to keep the switch as orientation lock, make sure you set the setting to orientation control with the side switch in the unlocked position. (The source of this bug is switching to orientation control with the switch in the locked position.)

-How does the subscription work?

Subscribing to the Digital BT Journal gives you access to all the issues of the BT Journal released within one year of your start date right on your iPad.

Clicking “Opt-in” when subscribing gives us the ability to contact you with information and possibly a means of having both in the near future, as well as other potential goodies!

The Digital subscription works as follows:

The subscription is an auto-renewing subscription lasting one year from your purchase day, granting access to the current issue, giving you four total issues in a year. It will renew during a 24-hour period one year from when you purchased.

Payment will be charged to your iTunes account at time of purchase.

You can manage your subscription by going to your Account Settings.

Disabling the automatic renewal must be done at least 24 hours before the end of the current period (simply flip the switch to off.) Cancellation of the current subscription is not allowed during the active period.

-Can I get the journal on other devices?

The journal is currently only offered on all iPads iOS version 5.0 or later.

-Can I get the journal in other formats?

We offer a demo PDF. However, the Digital BT Journal on the iPad is the only way to get the best experience with all the features and interactivity.

-Can I buy issues individually or do I have to subscribe?

Both are possible! If you want to make sure you do not miss an issue, subscribing will get you access to all the issues published in a subscription year (four issues from when you start, including the current issue.) If you would prefer to buy individually, that is possible as well. Simply tap an issue, confirm your purchase, and it is yours!

-Can I preview an issue before I buy it?

A preview of the current issue will be up on this website for you to see.

-How do I get rid of that pesky blue “New” banner?

Simply close the BTJ app entirely (double click the home button then swipe the BTJ tab up so it disappears) and reopen the app.

-How do I manage downloading an issue and manage memory?

Tapping an issue initiates the download (if it is your first download and you are not a subscriber, you will be prompted to confirm the purchase first.) A progress bar will indicate how far along the app is in downloading the issue. We strongly recommend downloading while connected to a high speed internet connection, such as a home or Starbucks internet. Navigating out of the app will stop the download. Please remain in the app if you want a quick download. Once the download finishes, the app will automatically open the issue.

If you would like to free up memory on iPad, simply tap the Library button on the bottom bar, and all the issues you own will be displayed here. Any that you would like to delete from your iPad, simply tap the trash can. You still own the issue, so you can download it again anytime you want!

-What can I do on the Store screen of the app?

On the store screen, you will see the current issue in the top/left corner and all previous issues below/right of the current issue. Tapping any of these will confirm a purchase or download. Also on the Store screen is the Subscribe button, where you can subscribe to the journal.

-What can I do on the Library screen of the app?

On the Library screen, you can browse through all issues of the journal you own. Tap to download. You can delete any issue you are currently not reading by tapping delete. You own the issue, so you can redownload it anytime you like!

-What can I do on the Account screen of the app?

The Account Screen is the best way to make sure your issues are kept track of. By entering in an email and password and hitting link, your issues will stay linked to that email. If you ever reset your device or experience any errors, simply going to the Account after the error and relinking will restore your previous purchases to your iPad!

-Can I restore an issue if I change devices/deleted the issue?

Yes! Any issue you have bought can be downloaded on any iPad you own, and downloaded again. You may have to look in the Store to find the issue, or use the Account button to restore your purchases.

-How do I navigate in an issue?
Once you have an issue open, the easiest way to get the layout is tap any non-interactive area once to bring up the menu bar. Tap the Contents button to show the expanded view of the issue.

In general, swiping on non-interactive areas (like text or empty space) changes the page. Left and right between articles, up and down for pages in an article.

Remember, on the Howdy page is the guide slides that can describe the features to you anytime you need.
