-My device isn’t supported. Why not and how can I get it supported?
We generally support devices with screens larger than 3″ and running Android 2.3 and above. However, device support for all of the thousands of devices out there is constantly being worked on, as currently many devices are not supported for many reasons, the most important being performance. We strongly believe in the quality of the images and will not sacrifice the quality of the images to release a substandard app.

If your device is not supported, feel free to contact us with your device brand, model, and Android version, and we will work on implementation.

-I tap download but it stops right after it starts. How do I fix this?
This is a simple fix, requiring you to clear the cache of the BT Journal. Go into your settings on the device and then find and tap the Apps section. Find the BT Journal app in this menu and tap it. Mid way down the page on the BT Journal app page is the button “Clear cache.” Tap it, then try your download again.

-How does the subscription work?
Subscribing to the Digital BT Journal on Android gives you access to all the issues of the BT Journal released within one year of your start date right on your device.

The Digital subscription works as follows:

The subscription is an auto-renewing subscription lasting one year from your purchase day, granting access to the current issue, giving you four total issues in a year. It will renew during a 24-hour period one year from when you purchased.

You can manage your subscription by going to the subscriptions section of your Google Wallet.

Disabling the automatic renewal must be done at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Cancellation of the current subscription is not allowed during the active period. Currently Google does not notify you of subscriptions that are about to expire and be renewed.

If you have any difficulties managing your subscriptions, have a look at Google’s support on the subject here.

-Can I get the journal on other devices?
The journal is currently offered on all iPads iOS version 5.0 or later and Android devices 3″+ with Android 2.3+.

-Can I get the journal in other formats?
We offer a demo PDF. However, the Digital BT Journal on iPads and Android devices is the only way to get the best experience with all the features and interactivity.

-Can I buy issues individually or do I have to subscribe?
Both are possible! If you want to make sure you do not miss an issue, subscribing will get you access to all the issues published in a subscription year (four issues from when you start, including the current issue.) If you would prefer to buy individually, that is possible as well. Simply tap an issue, confirm your purchase, and it is yours!

-Can I preview an issue before I buy it?
A short text preview of the current issue will be up on this website for you to see.

-The app is asking me to log in. Where can I get it?
Technically logging in is not required. However, the app asks all users to log in because it does provide extra support for you. You can use any email and password you want, and the app creates the account for you right away. Once you have done this, the account will remember your purchases, allowing you to restore your purchases should anything happen to your device. This also allows you to sync your BT Journal app across all devices and platforms, as long as you log in with the same account!

-I can hear videos but audio captions don’t work. What’s wrong?
While audio does work with video, the audio captions currently do not. This is being worked on and will be implemented as soon as possible.

-What’s with the black bars on the screen around the journal?
The Digital BT Journal is formatted to best show the images without distortion or cropping, something we take very seriously. For this reason, the issue itself may resize based on your particular screen size. This is similar to black bars on TV.

Fortunately, you can double tap nearly any part of the screen and zoom in.

-What’s with all the permission access?
Google carefully tracks and shows you all permissions apps require to run. In general, the Digital BTJ does not access any personal information, but it does access your devices memory (it has to save the Journal issues somewhere!)

Here are some specific permission requests explained:

Location permissions: These are related to the Map features in our issues, allowing you to see your position on the map.
Modify/delete/read contents of your USB Storage: Our app makes use of your USB Storage/SD Card for issues. No other content will be affected.
Find Accounts on Device: This is related to setting up a recovery account for restoring purchases and syncing devices. No other accounts are affected.
Read Google service configuration/Google Play billing service: This has to do with charging for issues. All purchases must be confirmed by you and will not take place without your approval.
Receive data from the Internet/View network connections/View WiFi Connections: This all has to do with the app managing downloading of Digital BTJ issues.
Retrieve running apps: Allows for easier switching between multiple running apps.
Record audio/Camera access: Potential features currently not implemented, such as audio/visual notes.

-How do I manage downloading an issue and manage memory?
Tapping an issue initiates the download (if it is your first download and you are not a subscriber, you will be prompted to confirm the purchase first.) A progress bar will indicate how far along the app is in downloading the issue. We strongly recommend downloading while connected to a high speed internet connection, such as a home or Starbucks internet. Navigating out of the app will stop the download. Please remain in the app if you want a quick download. Once the download finishes, the app will automatically open the issue.
If you would like to free up memory on iPad, simply tap the Library button on the bottom bar, and all the issues you own will be displayed here. Any that you would like to delete from your iPad, simply delete. You still own the issue, so you can download it again anytime you want!

-What can I do on the Store screen of the app?
On the store screen, you will see the current issue in the top/left corner and all previous issues below/right of the current issue. Tapping any of these will confirm a purchase or download.

-What can I do on the Library screen of the app?
On the Library screen, you can browse through all issues of the journal you own. Tap to download. You can delete any issue you are currently not reading by tapping delete. You own the issue, so you can redownload it anytime you like!

-What can I do on the Account screen of the app?
Access the Account screens by tapping the gear icon in the top right corner. The Account Screen is the best way to make sure your issues are kept track of. By entering in an email and password and hitting Go, your issues will stay linked to that email. If you ever reset your device or experience any errors, simply going to the Account after the error and relinking will restore your previous purchases to your device! This account works across devices and platforms, so use it to have the same issues on all everything.

-Can I restore an issue if I change devices/deleted the issue?
Yes! Any issue you have bought can be downloaded on any device you own, and downloaded again. You may have to look in the Store to find the issue, or use the Account button to restore your purchases.

-How do I navigate in an issue?
Once you have an issue open, the easiest way to get the layout is tap any non-interactive area once to bring up the menu bar. Tap the Contents button to show the expanded view of the issue.

In general, swiping on non-interactive areas (like text or empty space) changes the page. Left and right between articles, up and down for pages in an article.
Remember, on the Howdy page is the guide slides that can describe the features to you anytime you need.
