Gitzo 1348 & 1548 Tripods |

![]() Gitzo 1548When it comes to my 600f4 and D2X, there's only one tripod I trust to support them, the Gitzo 1548! This marvelous tripod while not a great general tripod like the 1348 because of its bigger size, I find myself using it the vast majority of the time for all my photography. When shooting with this rig, I use the Wimberley Head. I've been using the Gitzo 1548 to support my 600f4 for years and have not had images out of focus because of the tripod squirming around. When it comes to the stability question, I personally don't feel there is one. I've had the 1548 in water as high as my waist, on surfaces as squirrelly as ice, snow and tundra muck and in winds where my hat took off over a cliff, and yet, my images are still sharp. Now the tripod by itself might be too light, but I don't take pictures with a tripod, rather a thirteen pound lens and body that I trust on that tripod. The combo is by far not too light! G1548 Max height: 58 1" Min. height:15" Closed height:23 1" Weighs: 6 3/8lbs Max Load: 39 1lbs Gitzo 1348The 1348 has become my primary tripod of late. With the Arca Swiss B2 head (near impossible to find these days), it’s the perfect tripod for the 200-400VR lens. This is true even with the TC-17e attached. When shooting with smaller lenses, I switch out to the Really Right Stuff BH-55 head. The BH-55 can support the 200-400VR but I personally just like the B2 better for the really long lens.
