Nikon SC-29 cord

I'll be the first to admit that these are not the best thought out nor inexpensive flash accessories in the world. But they are the best around and I've been able to function with them with relative ease over the years. I'm just glad that the TTL connections have changed since their introduction, what a mess that would have been.

SC-17I have a number of SC-29 as they come from Nikon. I also have shortened SC-29 cords that I have shortened myself. These are used mainly when I don't want extra cord bouncing around. For example when using the Really Right Stuff Flash Arm, I only need four "curls" of length. When using the Extender Post I use my SC-29 with seven "curls." When stalking owls for example through a forest, not having the extra cord bouncing around prevents them from getting tangled on a branch etc.

The same holds true for my SC-18 cords. I have a number of them the standard length. I also have a couple that I shortened to just ten inches in length. These I use when I'm using my macro rig, the prevents me from having feet of extra cord dangling or wrapped around the bracket.

My SC-19 cords are the only thing I haven't cut down.

I have found that coupling 3 SC-17 works great. There is a long version of the SC-17 marketed by the third party available. I've never used it but hear it works just fine. All my SC-18 and 19 cords have an AS-10 attached to one end.
