It’s The Little Things

AT-6 Radial captured by Z 6II / Z105f2.8mc

One of the first lessons impressed into my thick skull when I submitted my first article was to get the detail shots. I had some, but definitely not enough,h nor of the same level as the statics or A2A. I soon came up with a strategy to get the detail shots worthy of going with the others. It starts with the light and background. The basics can’t be taken for granted. Then came the lens selection. What, the lens is important? I think so, using just the Z50f1.2 or Z105f2.8MC and shooting wide open! I then fall back on an old biology lesson and go clockwise. I start at the tail and then walk clockwise around the aircraft so I cover all the details. After I do that, I ask the pilot what’s an important detail of their aircraft. With all of this, I’ve begun to master what is really important. It’s the little things!

It’s Around the Corner

American Robin captured by Z 9 / Z600f4TC

It seems a tad early when the male American Robin arrived over a week ago. But there’s always that one eager beaver. It quickly made itself at home, eating the ripe crabapples berries most of the day. Then a female showed up, and the male got very excited, chummy in fact, and shared some of its berries. Today, I wandered out to find our early male now has THREE females he’s courting in our crabapple. As I was photographing him, I said out loud, “You’re not wasting any time.” He then and gave me the look you see here. I took his look to say, “Spring, dude, it’s around the corner.”
