There are small, essential parts to our camera that you just can’t pick up at your neighborhood camera store (DON’T get off brand repl parts off the web!). Like the Z 8 battery chamber cover pictured above. You can, though, order them directly from Nikon and if in stock, have it in a few days. It’s easy to do once you know how to talk the parts dept language. They speak in part numbers and not part names and that’s the problem for most. Well, here’s how you find the part number to order that needed part directly from Nikon.

You start by heading to the Self Service Repair page and find the parts manual for what you want to get.

Once on that page, you need to fill in all the boxes to get to the appropriate repair manual. In this case I was looking for the battery chamber door for the Nikon Z 8 so I navigated to that with a little typing and clicking. Once on this page, head to the hyperlink View download page.

This is where you can get your geek on if you want to see the insides of your gear. The exploded view is pretty darn cool. At the same time the elusive part’s number is displayed! With that info, you head to the Parts from Nikon website. If you know the phrase “Battery Cap Unit” and click on search, the website site will find it but then you have two options. Which is the right one for your camera? If you enter the exact part number though, you will get the part you need. BE FOREWARNED … THERE IS NO RETURN ON PARTS! You need to order THE part for your gear.

The website will state quite clearly if the part is in stock or not. If in stock, you enter the quantity and click Add to Cart. The rest is just your basic web order form. That’s it. The key is to look at the service manual and get the exact part number you need. As you might imagine, Nikon has a few parts so getting the exact one is key. Hope this keeps you clicking to your heart’s content! :-)
