Clapper Rail captured by Z 9 / Z600f4TC
In South Carolina, spending time on its beaches looking for shorebirds. And, not finding more than a handful the entire week has been very disappointing. Might be because of the Nor’easter, maybe the heat, or we’ve likely done a number on their habitat, or a combination of these and more factors. Whatever the reason, after lots and lots of time in the field, not a feather! Gotta shoot though, so went back to basics, in this case, the Marsh at Stono. It has a delightful boardwalk, and with the high tides, it forces its very secretive inhabitants, like the Clapper Rail out more in the open. This chicken size bird can hide in nothing. The big high tides make them a great, yet brief subject until the tides go back out. Whether on the empty beaches or marshes, I’ve been askin out loud a lot, where or where.
