East Coast Bird Adventure 27 Sept – 02 Oct, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is a kinda secret spot on the East Coast where shorebirds fallout on their southern migration in fall. Most, still in their breeding plumage from the tundra, fuel up at Folly before heading down to Florida and then across the pond to South America. Long on my list of locales to haunt with a camera is Folly Beach, SC. Yes, Folly is the real name. With over five hundred species of birds having been seen at Folly, it is an active spot. It’s a place for long glass, beach panning, flight panning and birds of all sizes, shapes and color. I’d love to share the Adventure with you, so am inviting you to join me.<\/p>\n

Here’s some of the detail. We are looking for four folks to explore with us 27 Sept – 02 Oct, 2026 Folly Beach. Yellowstone Fall 18-23 Oct, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’re very excited to share with you that we are going to the Yellowstone 18-23 Oct 2026 and would love to have you join us! We just had a seat open up and would love to have YOU fill it! Bison and Elk have their winter coats, the landscape is a carpet of colors, the crowds are gone, and the photographic opportunities are plentiful. And we’ll do Old Faithful a little bit differently than most (wx permitting). It’s Yellowstone, they come no grander!<\/p>\n

Caddo Lake 04-09 Nov, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Located in Texas & Louisiana, Caddo Lake is literally like no other place I’ve ever been too. Caddo Lake is a 25,400-acree lake and bayou, a massive “man made” lake containing many wonders and that’s what we’re going to photograph. A locale of endless sunrises and sunsets, its fall color is like no other.<\/p>\n

The fall color blankets the forests lining and IN the lake. The reflections are doing to be amazing! We explore this photo rich environments each morning for four hours with a great captain who has been exploring Caddo for decades. This time, we are also doing sunsets a couple of nights. We’re on a great photo platform as we cruise the waters. The combination puts us in the right place at the right time like the sunrise photo above. Notice the water is a mirror and we’re in a boat. That takes skill! The price includes transportation once you land in Dallas until you’re taken back, boat and captain\/guide, education and entertainment is $2950. Sax-Zim Bog \/ Great Gray Owls 24-29 Jan 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n

One never knows what the winter will bring at Sax Zim Bog. We might have been skunked for Great Grays this year, but that’s not the first time soooo. In 2025, we had so many we started to look for other subjects. What can I tell ya, I just can’t get enough of them Great Gray Owls or Sax Zim Bog! It’s just a special place I love to haunt. Trust this finds you doing well. I know we’re heading into spring (if not already here) but my mind is already thinking winter, 2027. I’m heading back to MN and them Great Gray Owls and I’m thinking we can do better next year and want to invite you along for the Adventure!<\/p>\n

Great Lake Lighthouses 21-26 Feb 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n

I want to invite you to join me in the cold, stormy world of the Great Lake Lighthouses Winter Adventure! The lighthouses of the Great Lakes have so much character on their own. When the winter storms and cold temps hit, they become a Doc Zhivago ice sculpture winter wonderland. The beauty is off the scale!<\/p>\n

We ventured to the Great Lakes in ’21 and our timing was off in bringing back this Mother Nature wonder. I’m going back in ’27 because the images I saw from a few weeks ago are spectacular and I want them to share. Come, join me in the hunt of ice! The dates are 21-26 Feb, 2027. We fly into Grand Rapids, MI and stay in Kalamazoo. Chicken & Grouse 19-23 April, 2021<\/strong> Winter is giving way to spring, the grasslands of the midwest have an eerie and haunting sound floating over them as the sun rises. You can see in the faint light little bundles floating over the landscape, every so often colliding and bursting into the sky and then landing again. A right of spring that's as old as the grasslands celebrating the longer hours in the day. A dance so celebrating new life it was imitated by Native Americans. I'm is heading to Nebraska to photograph Prairie Chicken and Sharp-tailed Grouse on their leks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This very unique Adventure is all about birds. Besides the Prairie Chicken and Sharp-tailed Grouse, we work the Sandhill Cranes on the Platt and many other bird species of Nebraska. We might even stop for some amazing landscape scenes you'll find nowhere else. The Adventure is limited to JUST 6 shooters for this four-day adventure. Texas Birds<\/strong> Adventure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I'm really excited, really excited to offer a bird photography adventure back in the Texas ranch lands! Here's some background. The majority of TX is privately owned, much is really dry. Some of the big ranches on the southern border have for over a decade have had bird photography blinds on water features they built. They suck in the birds from everywhere to the water in an otherwise dry world just feet away from the blind (you always have a 70-200 ready back in the day for this reason). We're seating in covered blinds at basically ground level photographing the birds as they come in. What is truly amazing are the rare bird species that flock in. Birds seen nowhere else in NA are common at these blinds! Take a look at what I photographed at the ranch<\/a> two years ago!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have been able to reserve ALL the blinds at the ranch to ourselves for ONLY six photographers (one opening) 07-12 May 2021. You fly in and out of McAllen, TX. We stay in the bunkhouse at the ranch where we get fed, relax and sleep. The price for transportation to and from the airport, all food, all lodging (Dbl Occupancy) once at the ranch, blind rentals, guide, and instruction is $2950. This is four 1\/2 days in the blinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Mary's Birds 21-16 June, 2021<\/strong> Far out in the Atlantic the furthest piece of North America can be found. Yep, that's where we heading. That's because this is where you can find one of the most amazing pelagic birds can be found, one on my list for decades of birds to photograph and places to go. The Northern Gannet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Mary's is a magical local where these birds with six foot wing spans that spend their entire life at sea, come to shore for a time in summer to raise the next generation. We're talkin not one or two but forty thousand of them! I'm taking four photographers to this magical place to shoot and shoot and shoot. The price is $2300 which includes transportation once you arrive to St John, Newfoundland, instruction and more fun that you can imagine. Arizona Hummingbirds 11-16 July, 2021<\/strong> Down south, southwest nearly on the border is bird paradise in the summer. And if you're into hummingbird, you're going to the promised land! We had to Madera Canyon to a private shooting gallery to photograph as many as eleven hummingbird species and possibly up to seventy bird species all in five days! And you do this by barely walking ten feet from your canyon. It is simply, the best!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a very unique Adventure. We pick you up at Tucson airport and from there we do everything but sleep together. You stay in your own person cabin a stroll from the shooting gallery and food (one might be more important than the other to you) in the gorgeous Madera Canyon. The technique we use could be considered gear intensive so view the video<\/a> about photographing hummers before signing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O'Reilly's<\/a> is a world-renowned birding location nestled up in Lamington Nat'l Forest of Australia. Birding and bird photography is simply beyond words here where they literally eat out of your hand! It has an elevated boardwalk taking you and your camera up into the canopy! The lodging is grand and the whole experience, well, is just so marvelous we're going back for our third Adventure! Come on and join us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We're going to be there on 06-13 Sept 2022. That's seven days of gorgeous photography (it's an 80-400 \/ 500mm \/ 180-400 kind of bird photography, not 600mm or 800mm) I'm taking only five shooters for the seven days. Non-shooting spouses can come at no extra cost (but can't be a part of our adventures but there is a marvelous spa). Lodging is about $150 ($29 more for spouse) a night and the meal package is $89 a day (the bar is up in the trees!). The price for instruction, guides, transportation (once at Gold Coast) is $3995. One half non-refundable deposit required at time of registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We're very pleased to be offering you a New England Fall Color Adventure 04-08 Oct, 2021. You'd fly into Portland ME on the 4th (and out the 9th) and we'd head up the globe to New Hampshire and a favorite of ours, Eagle Mtn House for the week. We're located on gorgeous Mt Washington which offers some great fall color photography! This includes a ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad out of North Conway one day which is so much fun and a unique way to photograph fall color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price is $1925 which includes transportation once you arrive in Portland until you go back to the airport, instruction (that starts a month prior to departure), a ride on Conway Railroad, inspiration, and as always, entertainment. We're taking just six-shooters on this adventure .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellowstone Wolf, Big Game, Landscape Photographic Workshop

Our Yellowstone Wolves is an incredibly popular Adventure with 2020 being a highlight! So we're going to offer it again this fall. While there are zero guarantees you'll photograph wolves, we've not been without them yet as we explore the vast Lamar Valley. Wolves, grizzlies, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, coyote, fox, badger are just a few of the targeted critters during our week! Oh yeah, a landscape or two always seem to sneak in :-)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I work very hard to share and inspire you with my decades of biological knowledge and how to use it to get you the photograph. We'll be based out of Livingston, MT (flying into Bozeman, MT) and for $1900, you'll be picked up at the airport and taken back, preworkshop packet, instruction, entertainment, and guiding is all included in the price (food, lodging, park entrance are not).
