At our camp in Africa, once it got dark we had a Maasai Warrior escort us from our sleeping quarters to the main social-dinning area. There was a really good reason for this. We literally had elephants, lions, hyenas and Hippos wondering through camp. As in, staring in the door of your tent, eyes glowing in the light close! So the Maasai would walk you to and from so you didn’t stumble literally into one of these critters. Well, I’m a well known flashlight addict<\/a> and had with me my Blizzard 1000 Search and Rescue LED Flashlight<\/a>. The Maasai had a flashlight as well, a simple solar powered unit as he didn’t need much. Well after a couple of nights I’d gotten to know him so when he turned on his flashlight, I turned on my Blizzard. When it came on he kinda reared back and his eyes got real big. I handed him the flashlight, showed him the settings and he just smiled as he lit up the opposite side of the river and said he liked it. The next night, he brought a bigger flashlight than he had been carrying and we had a “brightness” test. He lost big time. The next night, he brought a 4 D cell maglite and when we did the brightness test which he lost again, he simply said with a huge smile, “I hate you!” When I left Africa, I gifted the Maasai the flashlight. Well, when I got home, ordered from B&H<\/a> a replacement Blizzard and while looking, found the new Volcano 980<\/a> you see pictured above. A tad dimmer (Blizzard 1000 & Volcano 980 lumens), it is smaller and lighter and I really love it. But then again, I am a flashlight addict!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
