I have a number of mics for DSLR video, they are just as specialized as the lenses we use. When it comes to recording what I call &#8220;ambient&#8221; sounds, there is none better than the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/1082671-REG\/rode_svmx_stereo_video_mic_x.html\/BI\/8449\/KBID\/9350\/kw\/ROSVMX\/DFF\/d10-v2-t1-xROSVMX\" target=\"_blank\">Rode VideoMic X<\/a>! What I did was simply set up the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/1024081-REG\/nikon_d4s_digital_slr_camera.html\/BI\/8449\/KBID\/9350\/kw\/NID4S\/DFF\/d10-v2-t1-xNID4S\" target=\"_blank\">D4s<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/1175033-REG\/nikon_af_s_nikkor_24_70mm_f_2_8e.html\/BI\/8449\/KBID\/9350\/kw\/NI247028VR\/DFF\/d10-v2-t1-xNI247028VR\" target=\"_blank\">24-70VR<\/a> next to the feeder with the Rode VideoMic X in the hot shoe. I had the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/911445-REG\/nikon_27106_wr_a10_wireless_remote_controller.html\/BI\/8449\/KBID\/9350\/kw\/NIWR10\/DFF\/d10-v2-t1-xNIWR10\" target=\"_blank\">WR-T10<\/a> (taking advantage of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moosepeterson.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/30\/40639\/\" target=\"_blank\">new firmware<\/a>) attached and just sat back and waited for the Evening Grosbeaks to come in to record. This video your watching is just for sound. I didn&#8217;t light it because it was snowing. But if you listen carefully with your computer speakers or better with headphones, you can hear the beauty of the VideoMic X. Listen to how the sound of the Grosbeaks go from left to right, right to left and straight down the middle. It does a gorgeous job with all these sounds and that&#8217;s why I love this mic.
