Winter’s snow is a gorgeous time of year as the white stuff covers the landscape, bringing shape, form, definition and moisture to our world. I get out with a camera every opportunity, this time stopping me in my tracks. The fine, white outline on the oaks still holding onto their fall color and the pines surrounding them really grabbed me as the snow fell. What amazes me is how silent the transformation occurs. How fragile it is as with a warm breath, the snow disappears from the branches. And how it’s often taken for granted.<\/p>\n
We started the week here in the Sapphires Mtns with three inches of beautiful snow. I had gotten the shovels out from summer storage and spent time shoveling. The temps were where they should be, the high 20s, low 30s. Today, can’t even find the smallest patch of snow! The temp last night was 54 and we’ve had nothing but rain all week. If you watch the news you can see the results of these temps in some regions in the west, floods. If you’re a photographer, you had to get out quickly if you want to photograph the beauty of snow. If you an environment, you’ve gotta soak up what moisture you can as it runs off rather than gets banked on mountain tops. Snow is not only gorgeous but essential for us, for our wild heritage. As time moves forward, we need to take heed that the beauty if fleeting.<\/p>\n
