Grizzly Bear 0650

I’ve been asked to be part of a very cool, private print exhibit featuring a whole bunch of my heroes. That’s cool and I’m honored! I’ve been ask to submit for this exhibit just one photo … one! OMG! And that’s scares the crap out of me! What this comes down to is, my picking the #1 photo that sums up my forty years as a photographer. How do we go about picking just one image, just one bloody image? Go horizontal to hog the most wall space? How about vertical to catch the eye of anybody of any height? Go the cheap out and just throw something red on the wall? That sucks all in no matter how bad the images might be. Go for the tear jerker or the slap happy humor? The photo above isn’t the #1 image. Or is it? What’s the criteria for #1? The favorite, the best, the biggest money maker, what the spouse likes best, what some editor liked best, what some online poll voted, the best? I have a folder where I’ve been copying those images that might be contenders in this self imposed selection contest. I keep staring at them and every now and then, I delete one slimming down the odds and making the field smaller and smaller. But as I look at them, one thought keeps going through my mind. My photography comes down to a lot more than one just one, #1 photograph. And that, I think is what it’s all about! But this still scares me to death!
