I’m always intrigued when certain blog posting bring in a big response. This series of B&W images captured over just a 40min period of time have brought in a whole lot of questions all centering around one basic question. “Why are these images so dramatic?”

I wish I could take credit for the drama, but I was just witness to it. The drama I feel comes from the size and light of the clouds. They are big and puffy and full of shades of gray and when coupled with small slivers of the landscape, they appear even bigger. The moral of the story, want more drama? Then perhaps include less reality while including more romance.

Yeap, this is the scene right outside our front door this morning. Gorgeous! It won’t stick, the end of the week forecast will make it all disappear but fall color with snow is one of my favorite subjects. This simple click was made with the amazing new P7000. I thought the P6000 was great…it’s dog meat next to the P7000! I can’t wait to get out and shoot with it more, it’s just fun and makes gorgeous images. I’ll get a Zoomify up as soon as I have time, it will blow you away!

We’ve already had our first snow and more weather keeps coming. It’s a gorgeous fall in the Sierra, just look what Jake has photographed in our main location of Mammoth. Sadly, life has gotten in the way of life for one of our participants in our Eastern Sierra Adv. For our last shoot, we headed to the killer Albany Covered Bridge. What a beautiful location and especially in fall. Just look, here’s just one of the hundreds of trees at the location. It is simply a inspiring place.

And then there is the story of this bridge any my photography. I don’t have a good and not even close great photo of a covered bridge in fall color. And I still don’t! SO, we get to this locale and even though I scouted it out a week ago, with the increased fall color and the clouds overhead at the time, I decided to take a different tack on the bridge. So I went across the bridge and bushed whacked up the river to the spot I thought would be cool. I get there, not so hot. I put on a polarizer, still not so hot. I added a split great; not getting any better. I did a HDR with all of this and that’s when I knew I wasn’t going to get the photo. What you see here is the finishing of just one of the images of the HDR series just to demonstrate that just because you’re in a great location, the stars don’t always align in your favor.
This was a super DLWS with some of the nicest folks. We want to thank our wonderful staff, great participants, the folks of NH who were such grand hosts to a marvelous week. Thanks! And where next? I’m writing this from FL where we’ll be with our NAPP family for a few days working on new projects. As they say, no rest for the wicked and I’m as bad as they get!
