“Niks going away, what are you going to do?” The announcement is over a year old and before that many of us started looking at our options. Luminar has been around for nearly a year now, an outstanding program and Scott just released an excellent class on Luminar. He does a great job going over the UI and functions. The best part is he goes through Luminar and explaining its equivalent in Nik so you can make the transition. The Senal UTM-86 Lav Mic is truly an amazing Lav Mic especially for the price! I’ve just finished my first month with the D7500 and I can tell you, it’s a delight to shoot with! What many are calling the “lit’l brother of the D500,” I think that if that’s the kind of performance you’re looking for but in a smaller package, the D7500 accomplishes that very well! This DX body packs a lot of goodies inside its smaller frame but the most important is the file and there, the D7500 isn’t coming up short.
There were two stands outs for me in the D7500 performance that I truly appreciated. Its metering and AF performance are the same as the D500. While it doesn’t have the same FPS as the D500 and its handling is a tad different from its smaller size, the D7500 took no time to get used to, no little goofies to overcome. I shot with it like I do the D500 and it delivered. As you can see in the two images above, The D7500 worked in low light or high noon.
What amazed me about the D7500 and what I didn’t see coming were its video quality and flash work. The D7500 does 4k and 1080p 60 (but does not have Flat Picture Control) and with its fold out monitor and touch screen control, was really a small, sneaky, great quality video machine! And you can plug the WR-R10 into the D7500 and work with the SB-5000 wirelessly (pop-up flash has to be up for this to work). If you’re looking for a small knock around camera or a series first wildlife body and about anything in between, you’ll do very well with the D7500. I really found it just a delight to shoot with! Dawn di-GPS has just come out with their latest version, the Eco ProFessional 2. The biggest is the addition of a digital compass. What this does is provide you with a Heading, or the direction the camera was pointed when the photo was taken. It also has built-in flash remembering the last GPS coordinates in case you want to apply them to a different photo. For me, this replaces the Eco ProFessional because that Heading every so often would be really useful info. If you’re wondering, yes you can screw in the WR-R10 to the Eco Pro or Eco Pro 2 and it function. Pretty cool!
Note: I’ve had reports of the WR-R10 working and not working with this unit. The reason why it does or doesn’t work is not in my wheelhouse as I didn’t design, build or sell them. Sorry
