Moose’s ACR Presets
I wasn’t expecting the huge response to my latest KelbyOne class on Landscape finishing. Some folks have reached out look for my ACR Presets, missing the fact you make them yourselves in a matter of seconds in ACR. They see the above panel in the class and have been asking for the Flat, Standard .. other profiles. Well, they are all the SAME Preset except, the Standard uses the Standard Camera Profile, the Flat the Flat, etc. So, I click on my Landscape Preset then ….
go to the Camera Calibration tab and click on Camera Profile which brings up the drop down menu where you
simply select the camera profile you USED when you took the photo and then save that as your new Preset. The only thing that is changing is the Camera Profile, nothing else. What is Landscape-Cloudy? That’s simply the Landscape Preset with Cloudy WB set in Basic Panel. And Stars, that is camera specific so sharing its settings wouldn’t help as you don’t have Moose’s camera. Hopes this helps cause it was so simple, probably went flying right past it :-)
D5, SB-5000 & WR-R10 Magic
I’m so in love with the new SB-5000 and its wireless iTTL flash with the D5! First and foremost is the quality of the light. The SB-5000 is a tad smaller and has a tad more output compared to the SB-910. I love that combo. They engineers at Nikon also sweetened IMHO the quality of the light coming out of the SB-5000 a tad (referring to unmodified light from the flash head). Next there is the ease of use, no cables, no wires, control all the settings and connection from the camera via the WR-R10/WR-T10/WR-A10 Wireless Remote Adapter Set and it doesn’t have to be line of sight. You pair the two up and just go! What could be simpler!
In testing the system and getting ready for birds at Magee Marsh, I spent hours with the birds at our feeders. The SB-5000 zoom head was set at 200mm, shot at f/8, 25′ away and with no problem was able to kiss the Steller’s Jay to bring to life its spring time dress. No fuss or muss, I could change the exposure comp in the body (making sure CS e3 is set to Background) and in the flash on the fly as needed to meld the two lights together. The top photo if you couldn’t tell is with flash, the bottom is without. I’m so excited with the ease of this, there will definitely be more coming. Way too much fun not to share it with you!

Nikon D5 DK-27 & Eyepiece
Nikon heard photographers and have made the eyepiece for the D5 very difficult for it to accidentally come off on its own. You have to now depress the two button on the left and right side at the same time to unscrew the eyepiece. Its truly locked into place and isn’t accidentally coming off. In fact, I’ve had a few folks write in and have personally experienced how difficult it can be to get the eyepiece unscrewed even when you depress the two buttons. Found a real simple solution that I mentioned in my last Podcast. Depressing the two button also permits the DK-27 to completely slide off the D5. With it off, place it in the sun for a couple of minutes and is quickly unscrews. As one who earned sore finger tips trying to unscrew an eyepiece, this simple cure might just save you some skin.
