So Wednesday, the box arrived containing the 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens and with all that’s going on here, I didn’t give it a second thought. Then last night, after basically tripping on it, I remembered it was here. I’d gotten it for Sharon for our upcoming Costa Rica and later on Africa trip. I put it on the V3 and OMG! Then I took some photos at sunset and, OMG again! Seriously … freakin wow!
Look at the size of this lens, it fits in the palm of Sharon’s hand! Half of that is the shade for goodness sake! And if you look at the barrel, you see it say EQUIV 135 = 189-810mm. That’s right, that’s a 800mm lens sitting there in Sharon’s hand! It focuses amazing close, incredibly fast, has manual focus capability and is wicked sharp. No, it’s not a replacement for the “real” 800mm but when you think that on the V3 you have 60FPS, great image quality in a really small package, I can see a ton of applications for this duo. I’ve just begun to explore this, stay tuned!
