It’s so bloody cool I can talk about this lens finally! The new 105f1.4AFS is a spectacular addition to the line and one instantly added to my camera bag (ordered from B&H). So before more emails coming in asking, I do take portraits, lots of them and when I shot film, the 105f1.8 was an essential lens in my bag. I currently have the 85f1.8AFS which I like but I don’t love (it’s not the lens, it’s the focal length). Its slot in the bag was instantly vacated when the 105f1.4AFS was announced. Why do I think I need a fast 105mm lens? The main portraits I take right now involve pilots and planes. Having a good working distance from aircraft is important especially with light stands (the Profoto B1 & B2). At the same time, the narrower angle of view permits me to manipulate the background. And the narrow depth of field, that’s tells the story. This is just one use I have for this lens. Ya, not an inexpensive lens, quality shouldn’t be cheap. More important is what comes out of the lens, a rich story and that’s what the new 105f1.4AFS delivers with your talent driving it!
