How many times have you read in last couple of days, “I can’t believe a year’s gone by?!” If you have kids or a busy life or very happy or all of the above, you know just how fast time flies. This is especially true the more years you’ve celebrated. While we take this time of year to reflect on our lives, you might wanna reflect on your photography. Where has it come and where’s it going?

For myself, it was one year ago that we did our first air to air shoot over Lake Tahoe. We decided at the end of 2009 to take a risk and expand our business, push my photography by entering a new genre. I ended the year doing a air to air shoot with the B-17 Sentimental Journey. WOW! I’m constantly pulling on threads in life. Some play out with a couple of tugs and others, well we’re still pulling on them. Aviation it turns out took flight and 2011 has some amazing projects ahead, I can’t wait!

We had a big year on the wildlife side with the highlight for sure being one of the 1st to photograph the Alaska Marmot. If just half of the projects come to fruition in 2011 that are planned, it will be my biggest year yet. The one variable you can’t plan in advance is the weather. I was little blown and rained out of major projects in 2010, but that’s just the way it goes with wildlife photography. While I’m constantly throughout the year reflecting back and looking forward, I find many photographers don’t take that moment to do that. Looking at your images from a year ago and recognizing your successes and analyzing your failures really helps planning your next year and making the most of it.
In doing this for myself, I know one of my biggest challenges will be this blog. For a couple of years now, I’ve been blogging continually new material I take almost daily. In 2011, many of the projects I have slatted, I can’t blog until the client has first made use of the material. I’m just not sure I have the skill base to create as much content that is required to take care of clients and this blog. I’m really looking forward to that challenge. Being pushed by your photography can only make it grow and that is a great resolution for the new year!
