We’ve been back for a week now but the simple joys of our UK Adventure just keep on giving. We were very, very fortunate to spend lots of time with many friends, old and new alike. We are very thankful for them all! And photography doing what it does best, preserving memories, keep the adventure and friendships alive. We keep receiving photos from our visit which brings endless joys. Like from Tom at Historic Aircraft Collections. Our two-day aviation workshop was hosted by HAC and Tom is their photographer (thanks Tom!).
DH.9, Spitfire, Hurricane, Hawker Fury & Nimrod HAC Aircraft
On Sunday after a great “collection” portrait, Jake, Harry, Sharon & I helped to get the hangar stacked again. The way HAC said thanks for doing that work was the opportunity to sit in their Spitfire MkVb (Jake even got in the Hurricane cockpit!)! It was my first time ever in the cockpit of a Spitfire and man, was it freakin cool! Dave told me to reach around behind the seat with my right hand and pull up on a yellow lever behind my seat. When I did that the electrical system jumped to life. Then Dave said toggle up this switch on the instrument panel. With that, the operating gunsight, the EXACT one used during WWII lit up with life! We all had the opportunity to sit in the seat and use the operating gunsight on imaginary foes. While I know the back story, I think Jake’s photo of me says it all!

And we had a marvelous time with the folks of the Nikon Users, walking the canals of London on day and a day out at Shuttleworth the next. And as the photos arrive by email, Flicker links, FB and all the other means, thanks to all who are sharing with us, bringing back all the stories, adventures, mishaps and joys, the memories of our trip as that’s what photography is all about, simple joys!
