Take Off Announced!

Friday at Photoshop World, my latest book, Take Off … the Alpha to Zulu of Aviation Photography was announced. Currently in layout, we’re expecting a summer release. If you’re familiar with my book Captured, Take Off is the same size but looks at the world of aviation photography. Take Off is a first of its kind, kind of book in many ways which start on the business side and continue on into the text itself. I’m doing the book in conjunction with my dear friend Scott Kelby and his talented crew which include Kim & Jessica. While the subject of the book might be aircraft, it is very much a book about light, gear, storytelling and photo business that apply to all genres of photography. We’re incredibly excited and wanted to share it with you so you can be on the watch for all that’s coming!

Gone West – Don

We meet Don many years ago when he came to see an old friend from the 1930s, the Waco you see behind him. Don, when he was in his teens flew this very Waco you see pictured behind him here. To earn the money to fly, he would use the Waco to fly around SoCal delivering parts. A WWII vet, he landed on the beaches on D Day +2 leading a special forward observer unit. During the Battle of the Bulge his unit crawled up between the German and Allied front lines putting our orange arrows showin the incoming P-47s where to attack. A gentle soul, he touched ours and we miss him.
