That’s right, the genius who created this site, my aviation site, guided my web presence for the last I don’t know how many years has finally wrote it all down in a book. Along the same lines as this morning’s post in regards to sharpness comes depth of field (DOF). Both of these shots were taken with the 70-200VR2 at 200mm focused on the closest helo. One image was shot at f/2.8 and the other at f/16. Being over a hundred yards from the closest Helo and shooting with a 200mm lens, you can see the little gain in depth of focus between f/2.8 to f/16. It’s not that much and if you are having a hard time getting a sharp handheld image then closing down to f/16 thinking you’ll have a sharper image when you’re at the same time dropping your shutter speed, might not be working for you. The gain in shutter speed and the increased sharpness might just out weigh any gain you get with DOF in this scenario. How do you find out if it will help you? Simply go out shoot a test and see for yourself. You might just fine the faster shutter speed gets you the sharpness you’re seeking.

Holly Cow, this is a gorgeous printer! Since my quick mention of it last week, I’ve received a whole lot of inquiries in regards to the new Epson 4900 and rightly so. My reason for wanting this printer is faster printing speed with the quality of the Epson 7900 but able to sheet feed to create the match prints needed for submissions and the smaller fine art print. I can honestly say it exceeds my expectations (and blows away the 3880). The heart of this is the new ink and ink set. Espon describes it as

I’ve been printing on UltraSmooth Fine Art and Premium Luster so far but have a bunch of Cold Press ready to go for my next round of testing. I wish I could show you the quality on the web but its meager sRGB color space won’t even show off the dramatic color of this printer. It comes with a decent supply of ink to get you started but I would recommend when you order the printer, order a set of inks because the 4900 makes printing so easy and so much fun, you’ll not be able to stop. I love printing, I love even more putting my prints in the hands of folks who want to hang them on their wall. The Epson 4900 is up and cranking along with the 7900 and I’m just about current on print orders. Yep, I do all the printing myself, autograph, package and ship them too. A whole lot of your nice folks have been calling and ordering my book Captured for xmas presents. Talk about a bird-s eye view, wow, what a perch to make the shots! It sure makes me want to stretch my reach!
