“How’d You Capture that Detail?”

That’s was the question of the weekend with the #1 guessed answer being, “the lens.” And while the Z600f4TC is blistering sharp and that adds to the answer, it is not the answer. #2 to be the believed answer was “something” in post, which is far from the answer as this image is straight from the camera. Nope, the answer is the most simple one, the light! As you can see in the photograph, it was snowing and there was snow covering the rock. The very soft light wrapped the Raven from top to bottom. That soft light along with overexposure of +.03 and the WB set to 6000K (Cloudy) captured the iridescence of its feathers, something we normally don’t see in harder light. That detail brought out with the light is why you see it in the photography. Yeah, the Z600f4TC @840mm made it possible to walk up handholding the rig to the male while it called and is sharp as a dickens, it’s the light that makes the detail pop. The light is the most common answer to strong images, especially “How’d your capture that detail?”
