Nature is Amazing!

A football field or more distance from any water, at the back edge of the sand, was a puddle the size of perhaps, a king-size bed. That small body of water for over an hour fed to veracious White Ibis that only stopped long enough to empty from the back so they could keep filling the front! The fish were at best an inch in length, and the water depth was at best, an inch but that was all it took. There is a marsh behind the pool and an estuary behind that. Looking at the trails in the sand, it would appear on the last high tide, these minnows were either swept in or swept out only to be imprisoned in this puddle. I didn’t check out the puddle when the Ibis left but I can’t imagine the way they ate, there was one minnow left.

It was the first time I had laid on the sand to photograph White Ibis, that was a lot of fun. It was the first time I had laid on the sand with the Z600f4 TC, that was a joy! Being so much lighter than the 800f5.6 AFS, it made moving about from a prone position much easier. And I like easy. It was an experience easily summed up as shooting fish in a barrel. Nature is amazing!
