Yellow-crowned Night Heron captured by Z 9 / 800f5.6AFS
In a normal world, the birds are moving away from you. They don’t get close which is why we go to great extremes to get close, from optics to field craft. Then there was this Yellow-crowned Night Heron on Bolivar Flats this morning. We no sooner than parked our truck on the beach and had our gear out for beach panning then he showed up. Showed up RIGHT next to the truck! I thought it was a fluke but an hour later, we were still walking away from it. That’s right, we had to keep moving away from him! There were a couple of times I thought it was going to jump on Harry’s 800mm and perch, we couldn’t shake it! It was so much fun!!! I’m here to tell you, it was one wild and crazy bird!
