Leopard Lacewing captured by Z 8 / Z105mc

We learned about the Missoula Butterfly House last year but didn’t make it so it was at the top of our list this year. It did not disappoint! It’s important to remember that macro isn’t my thing for many reasons, the main one is patience. The 80 degrees / 80% humidity didn’t get to me, nope, “chasing” them flying pieces of tissue paper, that did! It was an overcast day with great saturated light. The inside walls are white and the combo made for great ambient light shooting. I raised the ISO to 800 and just had fun. I went back to my basics looking for the right background. I shot at f/8 to minimize DoF and moved to keep the film plane as parallel with the wings as I could. Ninety minutes later the sweat from the room and not trying to get the shot finally drove me out. I know though we will go back when the next batch of butterflies hatch. We finally made it and glad we did!
