Instagram … A Business Must?

This is a constant email question, “I’m on Instagram but I’m not making sales. I thought it’s a must?” With 550 posts over the last two years, I can tell you that WRP has not made one sale from Instagram. Sharon is pretty darn diligent with clients, especially new ones, to figure out how they came to us. It’s pretty darn important. Not a one. Do established clients look at our Instagram account? They do, it’s a quick, clean and easy way to see that we are still producing new content and a refresher of old content. Has it caused them to call us to buy a photo? As of yet, no. Then why do it?

We all approach sharing our photos in different ways. I have the website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram (and FB folks, stop asking me to start posting on Instagram, like duh!). Instagram for me is a simple way just to post photos I like with a simple comment why I like them. The hows and whys for my photos are on the website, Instagram is simply my photo expression of the joy for photography. So business is not my intent with Instagram. If you want to make it yours, I think you need to have a whole lot of backend presence somewhere. Where, how and why is an answer I don’t have so in answering the question is it a business must, it’s not for us and only you can answer that question for you.
