Note: If you use Snapbridge like I do, you have to do an update there as well. Make sure you have Wifi connected when you do that update.

Cheating at Buggy Barn

Cheating Saloon Girls captured by Z 6II / Z105mc

In a dark hole in the back saloon at the Buggy Barn Museum, two saloon girls check the hands left at the table as the rest of the bar emptied out for the gunfight about to take place out in the street. At least, that’s what was playing in my mind as I set up this shot with these two great gals. The light is a double saturated light coming into the one window. Light is first bouncing off the street to the wood awning and then through the window to the talent. A large, soft gold reflector is off to the left for a touch of time light. Shot with the Z 6II / Z105mc, it was a really fun, quick photo!

Great Color Comes from Exposure!

It’s real simple, you can achieve great color by simply, wait for it … underexposing! I shoot using Matrix Metering, Aperture Priority. On a morning like this with the killer saturated light, I simply underexposed by -2/3, and bam, done! This is right out of the camera, Photoshop used only to make a small Jpeg for posting. Try it, you’ll like it!

Western Light Adventure This Weekend!

Come and join me and the crew at Precision Camera for two days celebrating light. Friday night we’re going to be in the theater looking at all the functions of light and how they affect our photography. More importantly, we’ll talk about all the ways you can tame light to tell your visual story.

Then on Saturday, we’re shooting at the Buggy Barn Museum putting into practice what we learned and more the night before. We have great buildings, props, and models to use as a canvas for our light. Come and join us for a great two days celebrating light with our cameras!
