B&H – Aerodrome – Moose Weekend!

Spend a day shooting vintage planes and an exciting air show with Moose Peterson at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.

This is a special event brought to you B&H and Sponsored by Lexar. It is Lexar’s way of saying thank you for choosing their super fast professional media cards for your digital imaging needs. The entire event is covered by Lexar including transport, air show tickets, and lunch.

Your day begins outside B&H Photo’s Super Store in Manhattan and boards the fun bus with Moose for a two hour ride up the Hudson River to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, a true “living” museum of antique aviation located in the historic town of Rhinebeck, New York. After shooting the museum and grounds, have a picnic lunch (provided by B&H and Lexar) and then get ready to photograph the air show featuring World War I dogfight as well as barnstorming aircraft with a special Fly-in by a 1909 Bleriot (the oldest flying aircraft in the United States) taking to the air. Moose and B&H experts will be on hand to give you tips, advice, and help with your gear to capture the best images ever! After the air show, we board the bus and return to B&H, but that’s not all, guests are invited to return to B&H the following morning for a special crit session of your images by Moose in the B&H Event Space.

Schedule:

Sunday 8/28 Visit the Aerodrome:

Meet outside the B&H Super Store (420 9th Avenue NY, NY 10001) at 8:30 AM
Bus Departs promptly at 9 AM arriving at the Aerodrome around 11 AM. During the ride, Moose will be offering tips and getting you excited to photograph this unique opportunity.
11 am to 12:30 Photo Walk the grounds, the museum and explore all the Aerodrome has to offer.
12:30 to 1:30 Lunch is served in a picnic area. Box Lunch will have a meat and veg choice.
2:00 to 4 pm Photograph the air show! Board the bus directly following the end of the show and return to the B&H Super Store (estimated return 6 pm)

Monday 8/29 Crit Session:

9:30 AM come to the B&H Event Space with your best 3 pictures (large jpegs are fine) loaded onto a thumb drive.
10 AM to 11:30 Moose will review your photos and give you critical feedback.

Dress comfortable for a long day and please, leave your tripods at home.

Sioux Falls Airshow!

This weekend is the Sioux Falls, SD Airshow. The Blue Angels and others will be here which includes Team Peterson. It’s free, got great skies and aircraft and hope you can make it. We’re here with the Texas Flying Legends Museum aircraft. If you see us, please say hi and if we can be of assistance, don’t hesitate to ask!

Many have been asking about our Photoshop World Precon next Monday. Yes, we’re really leaving at that time for a ton of fun. Those who know me know that’s my normal time out. If you’ve not received the email with details for the Precon that have gone out, here they are. At the bottom is something that didn’t get out in that email you need to know. Cya there!

Greetings to All of My Red Rock Landscape Shoot Workshop Attendees!

I trust that you’re having a great summer and I can’t wait to share part of it with you at my Photoshop World In-Depth Workshop! We’ll meet up at the entrance to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay at 4:00am. Please be on time, as the bus will be leaving at 4:15am. To ensure that everyone comes prepared I have provided, below, a list of items you’ll want to bring with you:

Well-stocked Camera Bag: Actually, you’ll probably want what you would normally have if you were shooting landscapes out of your own vehicle. The only difference is you’ll be working out of a bus.
Red Rock Canyon, to me, is generally a longer lens landscape opportunity than it is a shorter lens. The difference is with the clouds. And, in July the monsoons show up with spectacular clouds! Here’s my own rule of thumb in deciding what lens to grab getting out of the bus—If you physically are looking up (towards the skies) as well as out (towards the horizon), you’ll want to have your 14-24AFS lens. If you’re looking straight out (and not up) you’ll want to have your 24-70VR. And, if you’re looking at a point on the horizon you’ll want your 70-200AFS.
In your camera bag you will also want to have your 80-400 (for those detailed landscape photos), a polarizer, and a flash because you just never know what might happen and that’s the fun of the chase!

Tripods: There is always some confusion about tripods. They are not required and I won’t be using one. However, if you want to bring one you are more than welcome to, that is totally your choice.

Clothing & Supplies: You will be out in the desert. While water will be supplied, I would bring extra if it were me. Sunblock, hats, and long sleeve shirts are all very good ideas. We’ll be starting before sunrise so you might want to have a light jacket or sweatshirt as well.

This didn’t make it through cyberspace and you need to know it.
After our morning shoot, we will come back to the room to finish our images in the digital darkroom. Be sure to bring your computers, their batteries fully charged, a card reader and tooth picks (to keep your eyes open). You will be taking this with you on the bus, leaving nothing in the room so come prepared.
