We are very excited about this Adventure and the experiences and photo opportunities they will bring to our cameras. We shot for the first time at this legendary bird photography location last spring and it did not disappoint! Along with providing lifer birds for myself, the 50+ species we saw filled our viewfinders until our fingers were sore and cards were filled up. The hundreds of American Avocets (pictured above) were just one of the highlights. This is a bird photography Adventure extraordinaire! The fact we literally drove right on the beach right to the birds was just an extra plus to this marvelous location.

I am taking four shooters back to Bolivar in this with a seat just opening up. A football field or more distance from any water, at the back edge of the sand, was a puddle the size of perhaps, a king-size bed. That small body of water for over an hour fed to veracious White Ibis that only stopped long enough to empty from the back so they could keep filling the front! The fish were at best an inch in length, and the water depth was at best, an inch but that was all it took. There is a marsh behind the pool and an estuary behind that. Looking at the trails in the sand, it would appear on the last high tide, these minnows were either swept in or swept out only to be imprisoned in this puddle. I didn’t check out the puddle when the Ibis left but I can’t imagine the way they ate, there was one minnow left.

It was the first time I had laid on the sand to photograph White Ibis, that was a lot of fun. It was the first time I had laid on the sand with the Z600f4 TC, that was a joy! Being so much lighter than the 800f5.6 AFS, it made moving about from a prone position much easier. And I like easy. It was an experience easily summed up as shooting fish in a barrel. Nature is amazing!

The Zemlin Photo Z 9 / Z 8 Eyecup solves a problem incredibly eloquently! They just came on my radar so instantly ordered one and it came PDQ! Its solid construction is impressive. It’s not like a hung on it but I did tug hard and it stayed in place, no tares. Permits all operation through the EVF no problem. It’s just a simple tool solving for me a big problem so I’ve very happy. The only little nit I have is the eyecup rubber is the now common “wimpy” rubber. I’d be happier with the thicker, more padded rubber. But I don’t have to do any manipulation, just purchase and attach. I’ve ordered more now I have the one cause the Zemlin Z 9 / Z 8 eyecup … yeah baby, that’s what I’m talking about!
