Pine Martin captured by Z 9 / Z600f4 TC
While there are some critters you can plan a trip around knowing that you will see and photograph them at some point in a week, furbearers are not one of them. They are for the most part nomadic critters taking advantages of opportunities to plan their day. Pine Martens are very charismatic in nature so finding one you can spend any quality time with is a joy. This one has been frequenting the feeders at Sax-Zim Bog along with a Fisher & Ermine. Expert tree climbers, their main prey are squirrels so as you might imagine with that as your main prey source, you’d be pretty darn fast. They are incredibly cute though a very efficient killer. When you find a scene like this the speaks magically about their world in winter, it’s a special moment. And with that rich, thick and gorgeous coat, a great subject when all dressed for winter.
