At DLWS, if there is one thing we talk about a lot, it’s light. No matter if its falling on a rock, tree or waterfall, light is what makes that object take life in our photograph. This is especially true with people. Our dear friend Pualani was dear enough to be our model for the morning shoot. I wanted to spare her by not posting the original lighting demo images (especially the first clicks, it was actually Uday). We took her out in the sun and with a simple TriGrip, diffused the light softening some the harsh light. But in this quick click, it didn’t really light her up.

With the rain, we took our work under cover and brought out the flash. This is a simple single flash solution using the Pocketwizard MiniTT1 to power the light. The SB-900 was plugged into a Lastolite EzyBox and held close, stage left to bring light into her great eyes and smile. It was a simple lesson, a simple click all the participants could make and see for themselves the power of light, flash and TTL. Great morning!
