Air2Air is heading FL for our April 29, 2011 event. That’s right, we’ll be photographing a J2F-6 “Duck” (a favorite of mine) as one of the many amazing aircraft available to us by our host Fantasy of Flight. This and FOF gorgeous P-51C “Red Tail” are just some of the planes scheduled to be apart of this great workshop. We’ll be hosted by world famous Kermit Weeks and his amazing collection of flying aircraft. Space is limited and with a couple already registered (great having you folks from other countries join us!), I have no doubt this will fill as quickly our our upcoming AZ Airi2Air.

The demo flight was over, the T-33 made its last pass and the audience was thanked for coming. Then the tarmac from empty. Jake & stood by and watched, and waited. A few minutes later we saw the T-33 land and taxi. We knew there might be one more click.

And sure enough, there was one more click. I loved the name on the nose but hadn’t got a good shot of it. Then we had this one last moment and just seeing it makes me smile. Any photograph that can just make you smile is a winner in my book!

Jake & I have been to a few demo flights but nothing like they do Palm Springs. The museum is right on the runway so other then a six foot high metal fence, you’re right on the flight line.

They made four passes and the first one was the highest being perhaps five hundred feet off the deck. Because it’s a jet and flying obviously below 10,000 feet, it’s max speed was 250kt (it can do a little better than 500kt).

Yeap, it was backlit and flash fill wasn’t going to help so you made do with what was presented you. I underexposed -1/2 to push the shadows down and make something in that sky appear othewise I relied on the new coating of the VR2 to make the images work. I panned through the entire pass, shooting from the start, middle (love the thumbs up from 2nd seat) to the end and turn over the field. I love R&R shooting!
