Almost no moon, clear skies and lots of stars, it just screamed to be captured. Not the best trail, not enough images (107) from late start and early finish. But it’s fun none the less! What you see here was created with the Star Rotation Action that comes with CS5. Kind interesting. Curious whata full circle would create. You can see what Kevin did with the same skies right here.

No, I didn’t get any sleep but that’s OK, I was too excited to sleep! The last night at the Valley, the moon was out fulltime so I went back in time and did moon shadow landscapes. That’s right, this photo was captured by 03:28am and all the light lighting the scene is from the moon. Takes me back to my college days. Now before I get flooded with emails asking how I did all of these images, you’ll just need to be a little patient. We should have a complete how to video out to answer all your questions. For now, I’m hopefully just igniting your imagination with the possibilities!

The 2nd night the moon started to have a little influence and was coming up earlier. This was my last chance to photograph the Milky Way and get a little Monument Valley in the photo. The glow on the rock comes from the headlights of a vehicle that just happened to go by at the right moment. I like the results.

Our very first night had no moon influence so I decided to do a time lapse consisting of star trails and sunrise. This photo was taken at 05:15am, about an hour before the sun appeared on the horizon. The clouds floated in and out during the night, I really like that aspect of this night landscape photo.

I’d asked Bruce a few days back how one gets to the Totem Pole formation. I’d seen a photo from there I’d liked and wanted to see if I could take it myself. Well Bruce said he’d take us there which is all we thought we were going to do this afternoon. Man, were we wrong!

What you see here is the formation right next to Totem Pole, Ya Be Chei. The clouds were great right at this moment so spent probably more time here then I should have but couldn’t pull away from it.

This is Totem Pole. You might not recognize it from this angle, but if you ever saw the movie The Eiger Sanction, you saw Clint Eastwood on top of this from an aerial view. Did I get the shot I wanted? Nope, I’ll be coming back in Sept for that one, wrong time of year. Bruce said not to worry, in Sept he’d take us to the top of the Mesa so we could photograph the Valley from the air. How cool will that be?!

This is Susie Yazzie. You might not recognize her as she is now 93 (wouldn’t know it by how nibble and strong her hands are) but you’ve most likely seen Josef Munich photo of her at the loom from decades ago. And if you’re really good with faces, she was in John Ford movies made here in the 40s and 50s! i just happened to ask about her and Bruce said that was the grandmother of the clan. So we drove right over to her home and meet her. It was simple a very, very special moment!
The photography was pretty darn simple because the light was amazing. The Hogan has a hole in the center letting in light as the front door which always faces east had killer light bouncing in. I just had to kneel and shoot. A very special moment for us!
