Just How Fortunate We Are!

We have had an amazing week here at Monument Valley! After putting in 4, 12hr days creating new online classes for Kelby Training (can’t wait to see them!) we took today to spend some time with our new friends the Jacksons. They took us to some of the places folks pay to go on the back road tour and to some places only the Navajo go. There simple is no words for our experience.

Here we’re at Eye of the Sun playing “tourist.” The natural formations of Monument Valley were we spent the day in 4 wheel drive are simply amazing! You can see the size of this place with Stephanie standing there shooting up. We went to the back of the formation and laid against the wall and shot out with the Fish to capture the entirety of the location. But this is NOTHING compared to the rest of our day. The opportunities this profession keeps affording us just boggles my mind. We are just incredibly fortunate!

The Amazing Southwest!

Having never traveled this small corner of North America before (circled all around it but never ventured in), I am like a kid in a candy store with all the landscape has been offering us!

This is what’s left of the Suburban after going down one road, it was kinda rough. You might be thinking, “this is like the greatest landscape offerings the southwest has to offer?” But I thought it was pretty darn cool as the owner got inside and drove off after I made this click. Yeap, this “heap” is still be driven and is not some abandoned truck we found in a field. In fact, finding such vehicles has been near impossible.

Then there is this big ass rock sitting out in the middle of nowhere New Mexico. This is Ship Rock and you’ll see it on the horizon long before you arrive to it. There is a thriving town nearby with the same name but the rock itself (a damn mtn) is all by its lonesome out on the flats.

One of these images became a killer lesson for the new Romancing the Landscape series coming soon to Kelby Training. Both are one image HDR but other than than, I wonder if you can guess which one became a lesson? Time will tell.

Simple Click – There are no Words!

All of today’s shots are straight out of the camera, not only was the shooting that spectacular, I simple didn’t have time to do anything other than click the Action in Photoshop. I do know the whole crew has been uploading for hours now and just now seeing their images and video footage. Just a amazing day in a new locale that just put on a show that is hard to express in words or show in images.

As far as I’m concerned, we found heaven today called Valley of the Gods. I am SO bush league tired because besides filming 12hrs today (killer stuff) for Kelby Training I shot over 1400 images. If asked, this was one of the top ten days of shooting in my 30yrs!

Then Came the “Calm”

So after being blown about the valley, the road, the planet, we found a location before sunset where the wind was only 20mph. Got the grit out of my teeth, changed my hair color back to gray from red, and made some clicks. The clouds as the storm moved through were KILLER! We’re safe and warm back in the lodge but they are saying it might snow here tonight. Cross your fingers for me!
