Color Amongst the White

firehole-falls.jpg

The DLWS staff headed into Yellowstone prior to sunrise and not until 4PM did we see any sun. That didn’t stop us from having great fun like kids in fresh snow shooting the wonders all around us. One of our first stops was Firehole Falls which in winter is a beautiful place. This photo was finished using Nik Color Efex 3.0 Bleach which, since there was no real color worked great.

We than headed to Biscuit Basin and walked the snow covered boardwalk. Here, the richness of color set again the white snow was quite dramatic.

All it took was a slow pace and lots of looking below one’s feet to find the small gems of color amongst the white.

Base Camp MT – 11.08.07

Where has the week gone? Base Camp MT is just about a wrap, and what a week! We have one helluva great group of folks here, wildlife photographers I think you’re be hearing about in the future. We’ve been everywhere MT, seen great things, made some great images and talked all things wildlife photography all week. These images are just from today’s field trip.

We came across a bachelor herd of Bison and this particular bull was taking his non-breeding frustration out on the local sage brush. This ewe was part of a ewe band moving down the valley. A backyard dog sent it running across the slope and in that process, the ewe decided to leap over a small rock. The sunset tonight over the Yellowstone River was, well, just a magical way to finish a great day of shooting. The Base Camp staff wants to thank all our campers for joining us and making this a great week!

Life is Good! – 11.03.07

What an end of a marvelous day! Sharon & I along with our son Jake spent the day shooting some amazing locales and critters in MT. It’s the first time I’ve had to reload the D3 twice in a day of shooting. As a point of reference, a reload is 2 – 8GB cards since the D3 holds 2 CF cards (I have it set to Overflow). The big sky country lived up to its name sake tonight as the sunset over the Yellowstone River & Asborkas Mtns was gorgeous!

Cape Cod Day3 PM – 10.17.07

Where does the time go? Another DLWS has come and gone and wow, what fun we had! Our last shoot was at Rock Harbor where a glorious sunset sent of on our way. I was more intrigued by the lobster boats in the harbor myself, the results of which you can see above.

We’re leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when we’ll be back again…..we’re heading….to Tampa! We’re on our way to our dear friend’s wedding and than to NAPp headquarters next week for mayhem. Stay tuned as I’ll have a D3 in my hands :)

Cape Cod Day2 PM – 10.16.07

DLWS hits the town! The entire DLWS gang hit the streets of Provincetown tonight and had a great time. While there is some wild characters to photograph, this boat had all the character I could handle.

ME DLWS day 3 – 10.10.07

otter-leaves.jpg

You’re probably wondering just where the heck am I? We’re still in ME wrapping up our DLWS event. And I’m exhausted! We’ve been going from long before daylight to well after daylight having just a grand time. I’m way behind on many things right now which includes blogging some images. This is from this evening’s shoot. I spent some time trying to find some unusual leaves to photograph and I was quite happy when I found these three in the crack of a rock. I’m not really good at macro photography, so this image made me happy.

We’re off tomorrow to Cape Cod, looking forward to the possibility of getting a little caught up and posting some more images.
