We plan for the weekend at the airshow for months. Might buy that new lens and practice our panning religiously. The day before we check the weather and we see … bald skies! Yeah, bald skies suck but that shouldn’t keep you from going, not at all. Yeah, you might not have the light or the clouds you desire, you still will have fun and at the very least, practice your panning of flying aircraft. But more than likely, you will come back with photographs you didn’t even imagine you would. This at least is what happens to me I think because I’m trying harder to make lemonade from lemons. You probably will find that spot in flight when the aircraft fly over something that reflects light into them like the C-47. Or you position yourself so when the aircraft make the turn, the props are front lit for nice prop blur like the C-130. You more than likely won’t take as many photographs you thoughts you might, quantity-wise. But you might find you will take more photographs you like quality-wise. All I can say is the advice It give all aviation photographers – just show up!
