Hey Moose
I’m sure you’re aware that I’m kicking myself for not doing this exercise years ago (Teddy Bear Exercise)! How mortified was I to discover that the last two pages of Captured explains the exercise. I guess I didn’t look at the Appendix when I saw it had D3 references. ? I am embarrassed.
I’ve been working on the exercise for the past three days. I haven’t finished yet. This morning was full sun subject/background and full sun subject/50-50 background. I’ve been doing each bear separately and then both bears together. And, then I realized that I needed to focus on each bear separately when they were in the same shot. I also plan to do some dappled shade instead of harsh lines of shade like I did this morning. What an eye-opener! Thank you so much for urging me to get my act together. I hope to add flash to the mix soon. I’m just amazed at what I’m seeing in these images.
Say hello to my new ‘best friends” in full shade, 0 Exposure comp, focused on the black bear and highlights down in post and shadows up a little. I’m using my D5 and my 70-200. This is a fun challenge. As I’m doing it, I think about the different places I’ve taken photographs and what those light situations were. I know I will be better equipped on future outings and I will make better choices more quickly in my settings because of this.
I’m sure when I get to the flash part, I’ll be in touch about this again!
