Ya know, this artsy fartsy thing is just a damn challenge for me. Why? Perhaps because it goes just far enough beyond my logical side that I can’t grasp it.

So here is my attempt at this reflection stuff. Driving down the road the pond looked so cool and full of possibilities, then we stopped. I circled the dang thing looking at the reflections and shot a whole lot, each click getting more and more frustrating. Seriously, I deleted them all but these two and even they have issues. But at least I tried and I did have fun. Will I try agan? Sure. Did I learn anything? Perhaps use a longer lens, a dunno.

The Eastside is truly a special place! Here’s a quick sample of what we see as we head to the airport. Out the window is our old friend, Mono Lake. And yes, I just can’t see to shoot while driving. And just in case you want to get in on the fun, Jeff @adorama has plenty of P7000s in stock and we have a space in our upcoming Eastern Sierra Adv. Enjoy the moment.

We were pushing the clock, had to get up the hwy to the airport and we didn’t know if the night’s snow or hwy construction would cause any delays over the pass but light is light, so we stopped. Armed with just the P7000, I clicked away.
You might be saying, “A point & shoot?” but don’t let the fact that the camera doesn’t cost a thousand dollars that you can’t get great results or, that it isn’t photography. The light was gorgeous, the landscape very inviting and the P7000 did a great job bringing it home. The NRW (Raw) file finished just like any other Raw file with no finishing needed with the top image and Silver Efex Pro used on the bottom image. The P7000 has Picture Control just like the D3 so shooting on Vivid, it was truly a point and shoot affair!

Yeap, home was great, what we saw of it but it was time to get back on a plane and head to ME. Now our drive to and from the airport is three hours. It’s the price of living in paradise. When folks here that they tend to have a hard time imagining such a long drive just to get on a plane. Well, you’ve seen some of the scenery we see coming home, here’s some of what we saw this morning heading to the airport. The P7000 made real simple work of the gorgeous sunrise. I have a bunch more from the P7000 to share with ya today, stay tuned.

The light came out and so did the color. We headed down Hwy112 to a couple of our favorite vista and rocked the house! Simply gorgeous. I just love this kind of landscape photography, telephoto. I simply look through the viewfinder, slowly pan the hillside looking for great patterns and go click. Just stunning!

This is where long lens technique came into play though. We had quite a wind and the only way to make the shot was to keep that lens from bucking. Finishing was real simple, add a little black in ACR and done. I just love this simple kind of shooting.

This is the first time I’ve been to NH as a shooter and it surely won’t be the last! Literally every turn has something new to shoot and here’s a perfect example. This old steam roller parked at the Cog Railway is a great example of old technology. It’s also a great example of a great subject in the worst situation. The surroundings and the light both suck, at least to me so how do you “jazz” them up? In this case, I did a one image HDR then in PS, darkened the area around the steam roller. That’s the game of photography, determine the photographic goal, the problems if any blocking that goal and finding the solutions to reach that goal. You don’t always win, but it’s always fun to try and better when you do when!
