Magee Marsh is a spectacular location in Ohio for migrating birds, especially warblers in their spring finery! In this short video, I go through some of the basics of when, where, and why you want to shoot at this location. Enjoy!

I love, love photographing these little gems but man, can the kick my butt! More frames are just empty space because they are long gone by the time I get the camera fired. A lot of frames are tips and tails cause again they are moving at light speed. And then, when I do get it all to come together, I catch a corner of the hummingbird feeder. They are so much much and at the same time, frustrating beauty!

The Eastern Screech Owl was safely tucked away back, deep in the riparian forest. Nearly everyone had walked right past it, not taking note of the sleeping little ball of feathers. A tad larger than a dollar bill, its cuteness is off the chart. The times you can look at an owl at eyelevel in the daylight are few. There was one little alleyway through all the leaves, tangles, and branches to get a shot. But the light was backlit with many blown-out highlights. Flash would have made more of a mess of the photo than helped. Any other bird, I would have just walked on as the photograph just wasn’t that strong. But it’s just so darn cute! It’s one of those moments, memories that I wanted to preserve. So I made the shots horizontal and vertical to bring home that moment. Because

When “Ifs” hit my mind, I tend to pull on that string. I have some work coming up that will be perfect for the Z50f1.2, a lens that I simply love. That’s when the “if” hit me, “if” the Z35f1.2 would be a better focal length? Not knowing, I set out to find the answer for myself, so I reached out to NPS and got a loaner. I’m only shooting at f1.2, why else own a f1.2? Sharon & Maggie were cooperative up to a point this past weekend as I went around getting a feel for the lens.  The Z35f1.2 is spectacular, oh my! Its almost non-existent DoF is gorgeous with its sharpness something you can cut yourself on. Took it to brekkie @The Hangar along with the Z180-600 Saturday and made a simple click that I enjoy, love the feel. So much more shooting to do to find my answer cause the Z35f1.2 … oh my!
